Lucy Pavalock
Lucy grew up in central New York. After college and several years spent working on campus at SUNY Albany, she took a position in the Berkshires at MCLA, then North Adams State College. After several years of managing the bookstore, she left to join the team at Catamount Pellet Fuel Corp in Adams, Massachusetts. There, she met Carolyn and they worked together through the expansion and eventual dissolution of the corporation. At the end of that era, they formulated their plan to start Custom Business Solutions.
Carolyn Jones
Carolyn is a graduate of Smith College. Her business career began at the Orchards Hotel in Williamstown, where she as a front desk clerk but quickly worked her way through reservations, guest services, and landed in the accounting department. She moved through each position in the department and ended as the controller. Upon leaving the Orchards, she took over as the controller at Catamount Pellet Fuel Corporation where she remained for 9 years.In 2002, she started Custom Business Solutions with Lucy.
At the end of their time with Catamount Pellet, they hatched the idea for CBSolutions. Carolyn & Lucy saw a need for small businesses in the area to have more than just bookkeeping help. They realized that small business owners are often overwhelmed by the tasks of running their daily operations and need various types of help to succeed. They wanted to be different from the average data-entry based bookkeeping service. With their broad knowledge of different types of businesses, from the hospitality sector to retail, to manufacturing, they were able to see what the business owners needed and help them find solutions. Thus was born, Custom Business Solutions.
Starting out small from a room in Carolyn’s home with family members and friends as clients, they doubled the size of their business each year for the first 5 years. The company has grown from a handful of clients to the current number of nearly a hundred. That growth led to the hiring of a committed and highly qualified team of accounting professionals and the purchase of their office building at 148 Main Street in Williamstown, allowing them to form roots in the business community.
CBSolutions has evolved over the years as clients’ needs and economic conditions require. They have gone from providing basic accounting services to more in depth analysis and strategic planning for businesses. Each business is different. The goal has always been to understand each business owner’s needs, form a partnership, and help that business owner find the path to success. The entire team at CBSolutions wants to be the “piece your business is missing.”
Carrie Beaudoin
Carrie graduated from Southern Vermont College with an accounting degree. She was hired by CBSolutions after having run the accounting department at Jiminy Peak. She has become a well-known local payroll genius, and is currently wielding her skills on several large projects for Custom Business Solutions.
Kristina Jewett
Kristina received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Vermon
t College. She joined the team in 2009 with expertise in Quickbooks and experience working with small businesses. She has since also spearheaded the work done in our local non-profit division.
